The use of local natural and recycled feedstock is promising for sustainable construction. However, unlike versatile engineered bricks, natural and recycled feedstock involves design challenges due to their stochastic, sequential, and heterogeneous nature. For example, the practical use of stone masonry is limited, as it still relies on human experts with holistic domain knowledge to determine the sequential organization of natural stones with different sizes/shapes. Reinforcement learning (RL) is expected to address such design challenges, as it allows artificial intelligence (AI) agents to autonomously learn design policy, that is, identifying the best design decision at each time step. As a proof-of-concept RL framework for design automation involving heterogeneous feedstock, a stone masonry design framework is presented. The proposed framework is founded upon a virtual design environment, MasonTris, inspired by the analogy between stone masonry and Tetris. MasonTris provides a Tetris-like virtual environment combined with a finite element analysis (FEA), where AI agents learn effective design policies without human intervention. Also, a new data collection policy, almost-greedy policy, is designed to address the sparsity of feasible designs for faster/stable learning. As computation bottleneck occurs when parallel agents evaluate designs with different complexities, a modification of the RL framework is proposed that FEA is held until training data are retrieved for training. The feasibility and adaptability of the proposed framework are demonstrated by continuously improving stone masonry design policy in simplified design problems. The framework can be generalizable to different natural and recycled feedstock by incorporating more realistic assumptions, opening opportunities in design automation for sustainability.

Fifty-two Australian couples who had experienced the death of at least one member of a multiple birth (twin or higher order), with at least one survivor of that birth, were interviewed about their experiences at the time of the death, and since. This study compared parents' coping after the twins' deaths using the Beck Depression Inventory II, Perinatal Grief Scale, and unstructured interviews with some structured queries. Parents provided information on the influence of family, community and medical staff. According to retrospective reports, mothers experienced significantly more depression and grief than fathers at the time of loss. Both parents found the death of their twins grievous, but fathers, unlike mothers, were not encouraged to express their emotions. Although parents generally agreed about what helped them cope, fathers believed that they should be able to cope regardless of their grief. The strength of parents' spiritual beliefs had increased significantly since their loss, and there was some evidence that depressed and grieving mothers turned to spiritual support. Parents whose children died earlier reported levels of depression similar to those reported by parents whose children died later. To date, this is the largest study of grief in couples who have experienced the death of a twin and who have a surviving twin or higher order multiple.

Antibody levels were investigated in rats infected with Breinlia booliati using the indirect immunofluorescent antibody technique. Sonicated antigens were prepared from microfilariae and adult worms. Adult worm antigen was rather unsatisfactory. The sonicated microfilarial antigen was useful in detecting antibodies in various groups of rat sera. Very high antibody levels were seen in amicrofilaraemic rats harbouring unisexual infections of varying worm loads. The singnificance of these observations are discussed.

The NASA Star and Exoplanet Database (NStED) is a general purpose stellar archive with the aim of providing support for NASA's planet finding and characterization goals, stellar astrophysics, and the planning of NASA and other space missions. There are two principal components of NStED: a database of (currently) 140,000 nearby stars and exoplanet-hosting stars, and an archive dedicated to high precision photometric surveys for transiting exoplanets. We present a summary of the NStED stellar database, functionality, tools, and user interface. NStED currently serves the following kinds of data for 140,000 stars (where available): coordinates, multiplicity, proper motion, parallax, spectral type, multiband photometry, radial velocity, metallicity, chromospheric and coronal activity index, and rotation velocity/period. Furthermore, the following derived quantities are given wherever possible: distance, effective temperature, mass, radius, luminosity, space motions, and physical/angular dimensions of habitable zone. Queries to NStED can be made using constraints on any combination of the above parameters. In addition, NStED provides tools to derive specific inferred quantities for the stars in the database, cross-referenced with available extra-solar planetary data for those host stars. NStED can be accessed at http://nsted.ipac.caltech.edu.

There are two principal components of NStED: a database of (currently) 140,000 nearby stars and exoplanet-hosting stars, and an archive dedicated to high-precision photometric surveys for transiting exoplanets. We present a summary of the latter component: the NStED Exoplanet Transit Survey Service (NStED-ETSS), along with its content, functionality, tools, and user interface. NStED-ETSS currently serves data from the TrES Survey of the Kepler Field as well as dedicated photometric surveys of four stellar clusters. NStED-ETSS aims to serve both the surveys and the broader astronomical community by archiving these data and making them available in a homogeneous format. Examples of usability of ETSS include investigation of any time-variable phenomena in data sets not studied by the original survey team, application of different techniques or algorithms for planet transit detections, combination of data from different surveys for given objects, statistical studies, etc. NStED-ETSS can be accessed at http://nsted.ipac.caltech.edu.
